Plans in the pipeline for Popcan

Story posted on

A SUMMER holiday club, fun day and skateboard demos are a few of the future plans community group Popcan is working on now Covid-19 restrictions are reducing.

Sheila Kimmins, who was appointed chair of the organisation in November 2020, shared an update about its recent work with White Horse News.

Sheila said, “We are negotiating with Wiltshire Council to put onto Penleigh Park a container that we are hoping to have fitted with a toilet and changing room and storage area, so we can hold games.

“We are working on a plan with Westbury Community Project to hold, together with the junior schools, a summer holiday club for children, to run for five days a week for five weeks. It will hopefully give children somewhere to come and give parents who are working somewhere for their children to go.

“Once we have come up with a funding agreement we will be looking for grants for families who cannot afford to send their children so they can get a discount or grant.

“We are planning to do dodge ball on Penleigh Park. It was previously very successful, we’ve got skateboard competitors that came and did demonstrations before, and we’ve been in talks about the fun day.”
