Westbury rugby club’s end of season awards

Westbury RFC’s season has come to an end for both the men’s and ladies’ teams, who celebrated with their club dinner and awards presentation evenings.

The men’s team finished in 6th position in the Dorset & Wilts 2 North league whereas the women finished 2nd in the women’s NC South West North 2 league after a close last match of the season win over rivals Minehead to maintain their unbeaten record at home.

During their club dinner and awards presentation evening on Saturday 12th May, awards were presented to members of the men’s team in various categories. The winners were: The Junior Awards: Junior Coach of the year, Logan Smith; Junior Chairman’s Cup, Luke Hames. Men’s Awards: Captain’s Player of year, Michael Tuck; Most Improved Player, Lewis Austin; Colt of the Year, Peter Cryer; Clubman of the Year, Paul Butterworth; Supporters of the Year, Sammie Gould and Monica Pearce; Coach’s Seat of Achievement, Chris Pearce; The Bob Bush Most Valuable Person Award to women’s captain, Anna Hemingway; Long Service Award, Daniel Goul; Personality of the Year, James Catley Day; Players’ Player, Jack Bates; Chairman’s Shield, Geoff Wheeler and Over 20 Years’ Service Award, Sam Gooding.

During their club dinner and awards presentation evening on Friday 27th April, awards were presented to members of the ladies’ team in various categories. The winners were: Chairwomen’s Shield, Millie Fenton-Brown; Captain’s Cup, Shannon Harvey; Coach’s Player, Anna Hemingway; Most Improved Player. Georgia Fuke; Personality of the year, Emma Samways; Players’ Player, Holly Noble; Mrs Motivator, Sasha Smith; Backs Warrior Award, Chantelle Rugman and Forwards Warrior Award, Lucy Harper.

Westbury Ladies wrote on Facebook, “It’s been quite possibly one of the strangest seasons and a very late finish, thanks to various obstacles, but we are beyond happy to finish second in the league this season and maintaining our unbeaten record at home for the second year running. A few weeks off for the ladies while we turn our attention to our Westbury Rfc 10s social tournament ahead of getting read for next season. Thanks, as always, for your continued support!”
