‘Sewathon’ raises £600

At their recent 12-hour ‘Sewathon’, local woman  Susan Stone and her sister Jane Burchell made six quilt tops for the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and raised over £600 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

On 14th May the pair started sewing on the dot of 8am and finished at 8pm. When the initial target of four quilt tops was achieved with over two hours to go, spare material was then turned into two more.

Susan said, “The tops will all be backed and quilted, and given to patients at the Teenage Cancer Unit at the BRI in Bristol where my daughter Hannah was a patient last year.

“During the day a number of people came along to give their support (one couple of ladies dropped in 3 times!), buy the crafts and enjoy coffee, cake and a chat.

“Due to people’s generosity we have raised over £600; far more than we expected. Thanks to all who came and supported,  and everyone who helped make the day a great success, especially Susan’s husband Andrew who put up the quilt display, and the ladies of Providence Baptist Church in Dilton Marsh who made crafts, cakes and cups of coffee!”
