Runners and volunteers wanted for Bratton Hilly Run

PREPARATIONSare under way for this year’s Bratton Hilly Run – the 20th annual event – which will take place on Saturday 14th May.

The popular run will start at Bratton Jubilee Hall at 11am and the 11km route boasts miles of steep hills with rewarding views at the top.

Organiser Val Witcomb said, “We are all looking forward to putting on this event which has proved popular over the years for its challenging terrain. We see the same people return again and again to try and better their own time, as well as competing against others.

“We started offering online entries last year and it has proved successful – we already have more entries than at this point last time around.

“Putting on the race takes a lot of planning to ensure the smooth running and safety of runners, and we are always looking for more volunteers to act as marshals along the course.”

A donation will be made from the race’s proceeds to the new Devizes children’s hospice, Julia’s House.

The Bratton Hilly Run was started 19 years ago by the late Roger Broberg, who used it to raise money for the local primary school. The Bratton Jubilee Hall committee  now runs the event in memory of Roger.

Nearly 100 runners took part in last year’s race, which was won by Avon Valley Runners’ Pete Slade in 44:31.

Entry costs £10 in advance or £12 on the day. There will be prizes for the first three male and female finishers, for the first male and female teams, and for the winners in each category: M40+, M50+, M60+, F35+, F45+, F55+. There are race souvenirs for all finishers.
