Local hike for Walkers

On a fine but chilly 14th February, 20 members of Westbury Walkers set off from their traditional start point of Westbury car park for their regular monthly walk.

The 10 mile walk was led by Rob Hearnden and Gerry White. Walking past the hospital and sports ground they soon encountered mud, and having crossed Wellhead Road climbed up towards Dilton Middle Down through even more mud!

When the Imber Range path was reached that was the end of normal February problems. Here the route took them along a well made track past Westbury White Horse with views of the valley and possibly the last chance to see the Cement Works chimney before its imminent demolition. After some miles the route took the group down into Bratton where lunch was enjoyed in the sun on village seats in the green.

After lunch they walked down through the village to the older part on Lower Road with its many half timbered houses, including The Court house believed to have been, at one time, the residence of the well known Judge Jefferies. From here the Lower Road was followed back to Westbury. All agreed that it had been a most enjoyable day.
