Mayor of Westbury to host civic service

THEMayor of Westbury, councillor David Bradshaw, will be hosting a civic service in Westbury this weekend; the first time the town has seen one in nearly 20 years.

The service will be held at All Saints’ Church on Sunday 31st January. It will be attended by a number of mayors from across the county, as well as Wiltshire’s deputy lord-lieutenant, the High Sheriff of Wiltshire and her deputy.

Cllr Bradshaw said, “This will be the first time a service like this has been held in Westbury for nearly 20 years; neither the church nor the townspeople have seen one for a long time.

“I’m looking forward to it and am expecting around 60 dignitaries to attend. It should be quite a grand occasion and I look forward to seeing people there.”

Sean Price will be returning to his role as town crier for the day, to lead the mayors and dignitaries in a procession from the Laverton to the church for the service to start at 4.30pm.

The public service will then be led by Revd. Steve Jarvis and is expected to last an hour, before refreshments are provided at the Laverton afterwards.
