The Rotary Club of Westbury recently organised a Young Chef’s competition at Matravers School.
They had four entrants who were Willow Nossiter, Hannah Kirkham, Chloe Sansom and Harry Phillips.
The entrants, with the aid and support of their teacher Kathy Savage, had to produce a three-course meal each within an agreed time, produce costings, ingredient detailed menu, table settings etc. Rotary appointed two judges who were Sheila Carruthers and Teresa Beaven with the contest lasting 2.5 hours.
The judges selected Harry Phillips as the winner. Harry’s menu was as follows: Starter: Crayfish, Avocado and Tomato Tower. Main: Pork medallions served with apricot and brandy sauce with vegetable baskets and mini potatoes. Dessert: Lemon Cheesecake with chocolate shards, Chantilly cream and a twist of lemon.
Sue Ezra, on behalf of Rotary said, “Jim Heath, President of Rotary presented Harry with a trophy and the other contestants with prize vouchers.
“Harry will now go on to the District 1200 Final and I’m sure that everyone will wish him all the best. The trophy will be kept in Matravers’ trophy cabinet and Rotary will look forward to holding the event again next year.”
