AVON Valley Runners’ Fiona Price was awarded Highly Commended in the ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ category at this year’s Wiltshire Sports Awards.

The event which took place at The Atrium, County Hall in Trowbridge on Wednesday 21st October, celebrated the exceptional work and achievements of athletes, sports clubs, volunteers and coaches across Wiltshire.

Fiona said, “It was a fantastic evening, I was so impressed with the whole event. The guest speaker James Ketchell was excellent and such an inspiration.”

Fiona’s many achievements were recognised at the ceremony, including being a part of the GB team that won team silver at the World Masters Half Marathon Championships in Hungry 2014, her bronze medal in the 10k road race at the European Championships in Italy and her success at the British Masters Championship winning a silver in the 5,000m and setting a British Masters record for the one hour. Fiona was also the winner of the Wiltshire Athletics Association Veteran Female Athlete of the Year.

Fiona said, “I was really surprised to win the award but I’m so pleased. Since being nominated I won the Leer Half Marathon in Germany and set a record for the fastest female.  I also came 8th in the 500m and 13th 10,000m at the World Track Championships in Lyon. Next up is a half marathon in Portugal and possibly the World Championships in Perth, but that’s not definite.”
