White Horse Community Choir and local musicians: A Musical Evening

The White Horse Community Choir and local musicians had a successful fundraising Musical Evening on Saturday 4th July at West End Baptist Church.

The event, which was open to members of the public, was held in order to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local charity Crosspoint. Nearly £200 was raised in total and the audience enjoyed a rich and varied musical programme.

The White Horse Community Choir entertained the audience with renditions of songs such as ‘California Dreaming’, ‘Feeling Groovy’ and ‘You Raise Me Up’.  A special highlight was Zachary Baldwin’s solo in the choir’s performance of Howard Goodall’s setting of Psalm 23 ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’. (The theme tune to Vicar of Dibley).

Naomi Bignell delighted the audience with her opera singing – this as a preview to her appearance later in the year on 27th September at the Musical and Arts Festival.

John Whapshott played some of his own compositions on the keyboard and these were well received by the audience.  David Snelling entertained on guitar, playing music by John Dowland. Choir master Ian McManus finished off a successful evening, playing classical pieces on the keyboard.  Guests then enjoyed refreshments and mingled with the performers.

Should readers be interested in joining the White Horse Community Choir, sessions begin again in September on Monday at 7.45pm at West End Baptist Church.  Contact Rev Ian McManus on email: rev.ian.mcmanus@gmail.com.
