Pupils’ posters win prizes

Six pupils at Westbury Infants are celebrating after winning prizes in a poster competition organised by Westbury Court Care Home.

The school has supported the care home since its opening three years ago, with pupils entertaining the residents at times such as Christmas. Home manager, Graham Oakes wanted a more reciprocal relationship and so suggested a twinning.

He said, “This poster competition was the first event as part of our new relationship and I was very impressed by the standard of posters designed. It was a tough decision. The residents love seeing the pupils from the school. ”

The year 1 pupils were asked to design a poster to promote the home’s ‘Beach Day’, with the top three posters winning book tokens.  The Beach Day was held to mark National Care Homes Open Day and involved creating an indoor beach with six tons of sand!

Debby Huxham, acting headteacher of Westbury Infants commented, “The children of Westbury Infants are enjoying a lovely relationship with Westbury Court.

“They had a wonderful time visiting the beach at Westbury Court and singing their favourite summer songs. They particularly enjoyed the Punch and Judy show as many of our children had never seen the show before. The pupils subsequently attended the Beach Day and sang sea shanties to the residents.”
