Oakley leads Westbury to another win with career-best figures

Marshfield vs Westbury at Marshfield on Saturday 23rd June

Westbury travelled to play Marshfield in the latest West of England League Wiltshire Division hoping to continue their winning run stretching over a month; this was the first time that Westbury had played them for about six years.

Westbury made two changes from last week’s win against Winsley, with Ben Whiting and James Hudson coming in for Richard Mills and Kayleb Gooderson.

Westbury won the toss and with rain in the air, decided to insert Marshfield into bat.

Westbury opened with Carroll and Senneck and they immediately had the Marshfield opening batsman Pascall and Andy Jenkins under pressure in so much so that after 14 overs they had only scored 29 and it was at this time that the Westbury captain Senneck brought on last week’s bowling heroes, Oakley and Evans, and they immediately carried on from last  week and eventually they bowled out Marshfield for 94 in the 32nd over. Oakley had career best figures (6-14 off 10 overs) ably supported by Evans (2-34 off 7 overs).

When Westbury batted they made a flying start by Gill and MacDonald and when they reached 57 Marshfield struck when Gill (41) was dismissed by Pascall. Shortly afterwards MacDonald (18) and Gibbons (16) were also dismissed by Pascall and it was left to Senneck (14*) and Whiting to lead Westbury to a fine seven wicket win and after the game Westbury found themselves only one point behind league leaders Marlborough.
