Edington Farm Shop recently held a successful book signing event for Anne Johns and Jenny Head, authors of ‘Inspired to Teach’.
The book tells the fascinating story of Salisbury Teacher Training College/The College of Sarum St Michael and the changing lives of its staff and students. The College opened in 1841 and sadly closed in 1978. It was the first Teacher Training Institution for women. Many local teachers trained there or at the Warminster annexe in the 1940s and 1960s.
The authors of ‘Inspired to Teach’ will be having a marquee at The Chalke Valley History Festival in June and they say “please say hello if you are there.”
Books are available at Edington Farm Shop, The Salisbury Museum Bookshop, Warminster Tourist Information Centre and on line at www.inspiredtoteach.co.uk
A book is available for reference at the Westbury History Centre. All profits from the book will be donated to CRESS, a local charity supporting the education of children in South Sudan.
