An RC helicopter and the White Horse
A WEEKEND with a difference will be coming to the White Horse Country Park this summer, when the AIR remote-controlled (RC) helicopter competition returns for its second year.
The AIR competition will take place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th of July, and will see some of the best RC pilots in the country compete, including a display from the current world champion.
Organiser Matt Lodge said, “Myself and Richie Clark have run the AIR competition for three years now, and last year we joined forces with the local White Horse Flying Club, who now host the event.
“Last year was the first time the club had hosted the event, and it was the best one so far. This year we are excited to welcome back the world champion pilot to demonstrate his current helicopters and skills.
“The weekend is primarily is a remote-control helicopter competition. Our idea was to create an event for RC helicopter pilots that was easy and fun to enter. It’s one of the most popular competitions in the UK and now known around the world.
“The weekend starts with a casual fun flying day on the Friday where spectators will see different types of models flying, such as fast and exciting helicopters, scale looking machines like Airwolfs and Apaches, and quad-copters or ‘drones’ as they are now known. We will also have some of the top UK model aeroplane pilots there.
“The Saturday and Sunday will host the AIR competition, where the best of the UK’s RC helicopter pilots will be demonstrating their skills flying these machines.
“For this type of event, Westbury White Horse brings amazing scenery and creates an epic back drop. Being in Wiltshire makes it ideal for everyone around the country to get to. International pilots can also access the site via the local airports nearby.
“The country park is also in a great area geographically speaking, so should produce us some great weather conditions for flying remote controlled aircraft.”
The event costs £3 per day, with all proceeds going to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity.
