12-hour CPR marathon – now to be held at Horse & Groom

MACMILLAN CancerSupport will be holding a CPR marathon next month to raise money and increase awareness for the life-saving technique.

Previously planned to take place at the Lopes Arms, the 12-hour event will now be at The Horse and Groom, Alfred Street from 10am to 10pm on Saturday 2nd May.

Macmillan accounts and marketing manager Amanda Wingrave said, “The idea is that we teach people basic CPR and for 12 hours, each person will take it in turns to perform CPR for 2 minutes each time for as many times as possible, taking a break in-between, like a tag team CPR.

“It’s a great way to practise CPR whilst raising awareness of the importance of it, raising money for Macmillan and hopefully having lots of fun!

“CPR is becoming more and more recognised due to recent adverts, and news events, but the fact that this helps save lives every day is the reason we chose it for a fundraising event.

“Saving lives and Macmillan Cancer Support go hand in hand. When people are faced with ‘what would you do if….’, the majority of people would want to know CPR and at least try to save a life, rather than stand back and do nothing.

“This event will not make everyone First Aid qualified but it will certainly give everyone the chance to learn CPR and to practise, whilst raising money for a great cause.”
