Date set for re-opening of The Ham Post Office

The Post Office is to re-open The Ham Post Office service at its previous premises, 50 The Ham, Westbury (BA13 4HD) on Tuesday 24th March at 1.00pm.

The former branch closed in August 2013, after being operated on the PO’s behalf by a temporary postmaster.

The Post Office is now in a position to restore the Post Office service as a new convenience store has recently opened; owner Mathivannan Thiruchelvam will become the postmaster.

It will be a Post Office local branch. This is a new concept for delivering Post Office services from an open-plan till at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter.  This service is provided during the shop opening hours: Monday to Saturday: 6.00am – 8.30pm; Sunday: 8.00am – 8.00pm.

This will be an extra 53 hours a week than before, including all day Sunday and Saturday afternoon. The branch will also open significantly earlier and close much later every day.

Leighton Barratt, field change advisor said, “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Westbury and we are confident this new service will meet the needs of the local community in Westbury and secure services for the future. The establishment of a Post Office local service presented the best possible solution to allow us to reinstate Post Office services in Westbury.”
