AWESTBURY woman is celebrating the success of her two fundraising events which raised over £1,400 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Linda Penney organised the events as part of her continued fundraising for the charity since her husband’s quadruple heart bypass in 2009.

Linda said, “I became a British Heart Foundation volunteer to help say thank you for the support they gave us when my husband underwent his bypass.

“They do an amazing job and I’ll never be able to thank them enough. Helping them raise vital funds for research is just my small contribution.”

Linda first organised a children’s ‘Bounce and Play’ Christmas Party in December. She said, “We had bouncy castles, Santa’s grotto, a creative balloons entertainer, Hearty (the British Heart Foundation mascot) himself,  and Bounce-A-Roo princesses Anna and Elsa in attendance. A great day was had by all and we raised over £900! The second event was a curry and quiz night earlier this month, which raised £570. Both events were supported by Aster Communities, and the Christmas party also had the support of the Westbury Co-op supermarket.

“This is the second year I have organised the parties and am very pleased with the attendance by the people of Westbury. I’m looking forward to this year’s, which will have lots more surprises! My husband had a quadruple heart bypass at the age of 46. It all happened so quickly because we  had no idea he had a heart condition. Today he is a proud dad to our three year-old daughter Emily. We owe everything to the BHF and the support they gave us at the time.”

Linda’s next fundraiser will be a Charity Golf Day on Friday 24th July. Anyone interested in taking part or sponsoring the event can call Linda on 07748 740544.
