Matravers student lights up bonfire

A MATRAVERSstudent got a taste of military life last weekend, when she joined the Mayor of Warminster in a tank to at the garrison’s annual bonfire celebration.

Sixth-form student Chloe Bleakley joined the Warminster mayor to light the garrison’s bonfire, on Saturday 1st November.

The decision to include Matravers School in the event was made by Adam Diver, Garrison Sergeant Major at The Land Warfare Centre, to recognise the developing relationship between the school and the garrison.

Chloe was chosen to perform the honour as one of the school’s ‘unsung heroines’.

Headteacher Simon Riding said, “Chloe has shown determination and initiative throughout her time at Matravers; qualities that the school recognise and foster in all their students. In addition to academic work, Chloe raises money for Unicef and has even set up her own fundraising web page.”

The regular event saw a bonfire, fireworks, fairground attractions, food, and a disco.
