Have a great night out and raise funds for RUH cancer unit

A charity race night is being held at Leigh Park Community Centre to raise money for the cancer unit within Bath’s Royal United Hospital.

The evening, on Saturday 11th October from 7.00pm until 11.00pm, will include a raffle, auction, nibbles (included in the £5 ticket price), and the bar will also be available.

The horse races are on video, contained within an entertainment system kindly donated for the evening by Neil Hawker of Chantry Digital.

Auction items will include a photo-shoot donated by David Douglas of Ideal Images Photography, a silver ivy leaf pendant chain donated by Wallace Regelous and a garden water feature donated by Bradford on Avon Lions.

The event has been organised by the Trowbridge branch of the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG). One of the organisers, Sam Gooding said, “The charity BCUSG has now raised over £900,000 towards the £1.2million required to fund a new Positron Scanner for Bath RUH which, when in place, could literally save hundreds of lives. It’s a horrible thought but one of those lives could be someone close to any of us.

“My reasons for raising money for BCUSG is that I have so many friends whose lives have been impacted by cancer as well as my own (my mother has had breast and skin cancer). The death last year of Matthew Hoskins at such a young age, who along with his widow Laura and Matthew’s close friends have already raised a considerable sum for the charity, has meant that I am more than happy to give my own little bit back.”

Anyone looking to making a donation or holding an event should contact Marie Brichard-Parsons on 07709 912661.

Tickets for the charity race night are available from Sam on 07929 171338, Marie on 07709 912661 as well as Cards Plus, Café Chic and Zia Pizza in Westbury. Any raffle prizes or auction donations are also much appreciated.
