Westbury Choral Society’s spring concert

WESTBURY Choral Society’s Spring Concert will take place at All Saints Parish Church on Saturday 26th April, commencing at 7.30pm.

The choir will be conducted by Luke Pickett and accompanied by pianist Jane Law.

Over recent weeks the choir have been rehearsing a varied and what it is hoped  will prove a popular programme.

The main works will be Elgar’s tuneful  ‘Songs from the Bavarian Highlands’ and ‘Feel the Spirit’ a series of well known spirituals arranged by John Rutter in which society member Maggie Lobb will be soloist. Other works include Hubert Parry’s anthem ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’, three movements from Karl  Jenkin’s ‘The Armed Man’ and Howard Goodall’s setting of ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’  familiar as the theme music for ‘The Vicar of Dibley’.

The choir’s conductor Luke Pickett said, “ It may appear that we have chosen a lighter programme this year but it certainly hasn’t proved less challenging for the choir members. The Parry is a big sing for a relatively small choir while the  harmonies in both the Elgar and the  Rutter are beautiful but by no means  easy. However the choir has been working hard since the New Year and everyone is confident it will be a good concert.”

The society was encouraged by the largest audience for many years at Christmas and hopes that the forthcoming concert will prove equally popular. Tickets £8 (unaccompanied children free) are available at Westbury Visitors  Centre,  from members or on the door.
