Westbury United 0-2 Wellington – Toolstation Division One, Sat. 5th April

THIS was a flattering result for the visitors who were put under pressure for large parts of the match and scored through two soft goals.

Westbury’s young team played some lovely football at times but there was no end product to the fine approach play.

United had the better of the first half with Nick Taylor and Charlie Walton prominent, both creating chances that went begging; Marc Lanfear having a good shot well saved by Jake Viney in the Wellington goal.

Wellington’s first chance came midway through the half and ended with home defender Matt Friendship being taken off on a stretcher after bravely blocking Alexis Piper’s header! Piper then attempted a few long range shots, one of which was well saved by Rob Brown.

The opening goal was scored just before the break when Piper’s corner kick fell to Tom Ellis who bundled it over the line at the back post.

United, largely through Walton and Mark Young, put together some fine moves after half time but poor finishing was their undoing with both Lanfear and Wayne Wheeler off target while Walton arrived on the end of a flowing break only to see his attempted finish deflected wide!

They were made to pay on 79; Marc Scammell fouled Jack Adams and a penalty was awarded. Brown saved Piper’s spot kick but the ball wasn’t cleared and found its way to Ollie Chamberlain who finished via a deflection off home defender Dan Hurkett.

*STAR MAN – Charlie Walton (Westbury United).
