Westbury campus needs your help

LOCAL people are being asked to play a key role in the Westbury campus project which will help shape the future of services in the local area.

The shadow community operations board (COB) is made up of members of the community and its role is integral in helping to direct the project. The group reports to the Westbury Area Board and has been working hard to develop a campus proposal, which is the term used to describe the buildings where council and partner services will be accessed for the Westbury area.

The COB has a number of vacancies and would like to invite applications from residents local to the Westbury community area who are interested in joining the group to express an interest and help move the project forward. People wishing to join should express an interest by 28th February.

The COB is keen to hear from people from across the local community to ensure it effectively represents the views of local people. There is also a specific vacancy for someone to represent education and younger people.

People who are unable to commit to a long term involvement, but feel they have skills and energy which could be useful are still invited to express an interest.

Campus proposals are being developed across the county and will help deliver services which are value for money, tailored to local needs and influenced by local people and partners. Community campuses are being developed through input from local people ensuring each campus is as individual as the community it serves. They will provide the services communities may need in easy to access locations – placing customers and their needs at the heart of future plans.

The COB has recently carried out their second phase of consultation on the Westbury campus. The outcomes of this show that nearly 80% of people support a split site campus incorporating three existing sites: the library, the swimming pool and Leighton Recreation Centre. The COB will present a full analysis of the results to the area board on 6th February and will then develop a working proposal.
