Westbury chimney could be demolished

LAFARGE says it is likely to demolish some of the old buildings on its Westbury site, but has not specified whether the iconic chimney might be included in these plans.

Manufacturing operations on the site ceased in February 2009. In 2010 Lafarge announced that it was ending manufacturing capacity at the Westbury works. Part of the site is still used as a distribution depot.

However, Lafarge says it is still assessing options for the site’s future.

A spokesperson for Lafarge Tarmac said, “We are assessing options for the future of [the] Westbury [site], and are working closely with Wiltshire Council as part of this process.  There are a number of potential options being considered and, once we have a more firm idea, we’ll share our plans. It is likely that some of the old buildings will be demolished.”
