Go Francesca! Gymnast ready to compete at Olympics

ONEof the proud members of Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics is ex-Matravers student Francesca Fox.

The 20-year-old rhythmic gymnast won bronze as part of the women’s team at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010 while she was still studying at Matravers, and is now feeling the building excitement for her appearance at the London Olympics.

Francesca tweeted, “The excitement is crazy. [It’s] come round soo fast but I am loving every second! The support for TeamGB is incredible.”

Although the team of Rachel Smith, Louisa Pouli, Francesca Fox, Lynne Hutchison, Jade Faulkner, and Georgina Cassar looked set to miss out on the games in January after missing the agreed score set by British Gymnastics, they successfully appealed the decision.

Francesca was national champion at the age of 16 in 2008, and has performed live on BBC One at the National Lottery Awards. She was also named Sports Personality of the Year at the Wiltshire and Swindon Sports Awards last year.

Matravers has been supporting their ex-student, most recently by presenting her with a cheque for £629 for  the Great Britain Rhythmic Gymnastics Team.

The rhythmic gymnastics competitions takes place between 9th and 12th August.
