Local memorial music festival postponed

A NEW music festival planned for Southwick has been cancelled, but the Westbury organisers hope the event will go ahead in 2013.

The festival was the brainchild of Westbury couple Jayne Abbott and her husband Phillip, who wanted to stage the event in memory of Jayne’s son, Rick, who died at the age of 19 after being involved in a tragic accident 10 years ago.

‘Rickfest’ was due to take place at the end of this month, raising money for the Rainbow Trust. Although this year’s event has been cancelled, organisers are looking at plans for a festival next year.

A statement for the festival says, “It is with regret that Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity has decided to cancel Rickfest 2012. A decision was made to cancel this year’s music event due to various logistical circumstances, combined with a heavily congested summer schedule of events throughout the country. Rainbow Trust is looking at plans for a similar festival next year.

“In the meantime Rainbow Trust and everyone involved with Rickfest would like to thank everybody who has given or pledged their time and resources to help this event move forward.”
