Issue 507 – Charity shop closes its doors

THE WISP charity shop in Maristow Street will be closing at the end of February, citing the economic climate and a lack of volunteers.
The WISP (Westbury Incorporating Surrounding Parishes) shop opened in the former Westbury Racing premises in May. The charity was set up with the ethos of assisting local organisations and good causes in the town and surrounding villages from the shop’s income, with the funds being donated to causes in the local area only. A trust of leading town figures was set up to distribute the funds.
Christine Mitchell, chairman of WISP said, “It is with regret that we, the trustees have to inform your readers that the WISP charity shop will be closing down at the end of February. This has come about because of the current economic climate and the difficulty in recruiting volunteers to assist in the shop.
“After the closure we will be making donations to Westbury Link and the Westbury First Responders.
“May we take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and generous donations.”
