Issue 505 – “Westbury Forward” – how can we improve our community?

A MEETING to air ideas on how local issues can be addressed is being held this Wednesday.
The Joint Strategic Assessment (JSA) for the Westbury Community Area was published at the end of last year, offering data on economy, health, safety, transport, housing, education, and environment.

Hosted by Westbury Area Board and the BA13+ Community Area Partnership, “Westbury Forward: enhancing Westbury and the surrounding villages” will allow people with a key interest in the community to discuss the JSA. Representatives at the meeting will include those from sports clubs, youth groups, businesses, local churches, support groups, and schools. Ideas from the meeting will be used to help update the community plan.
Maggie Rae, Wiltshire director of public health, will be addressing the event and talking about the local issues highlighted in the JSA. Attendees will then be able to join discussions on the subject group of their choice and suggest priorities and ways to move forward.
The JSA for the Westbury Community Area compares figures to the Wiltshire average; and among other aspects shows a high level of income deprivation (families that are out of work or with low earnings); below average GCSE results, a high rate of teenage pregnancies, and an above average percentage of children living in poverty.
