Issue 445 – Italia! italia!

THIS Halloween will see an Italian market come to Westbury’s Market Place, in the run up to Christmas.

The Italian market follows on from last year’s French market, which proved a huge hit with the shoppers of Westbury. The ‘Italia in Piazza’ market will run from 8.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday 31st October, with up to 18 stalls selling a variety of classic Italian foods and specialities. It will be situated in the Market Place, with some stalls overflowing into Maristow Street.
All the produce on sale will have been recently shipped in from Italy, and all of the market staff are Italians themselves.
The Market Place and Maristow Street will be closed between 6.30pm on Friday 30th October – 6.00pm Saturday 31st October in order to accommodate the market. Wiltshire Council and Westbury Town Council are working together to organise the market.
Italia in Piazza owner, Simon Faro said, “It’s our first time in Westbury and we’re looking forward to it, it seems a very nice town. We travel around the south selling our produce, which is brought in weekly from Italy. All of our staff are Italian and either chefs or specialists in their area.
“Our products aren’t available anywhere else in the country, they’re all exclusive to us. It’s a chance for shoppers to come down and sample a little piece of Italy.”
Amongst the items available to buy will be cheeses such as parmesan and gorgonzola, olives, cured meats, pastas, olive oils, speciality breads and cakes and biscuits. Classic Italian hot food will also be on sale from the stalls, including pizza, calzone, Sicilian rice balls and Italian sausages.
David Jenkins, chairman of Westbury Chamber of Commerce said, “I think it’s smashing. It’s great for the community and for the businesses in the town as it will generate extra interest. If it is as successful as the French market last year then it will be very well received by the people in the area. Hopefully we’ll have some great weather for it as we did last year.”
To access the market, shoppers will be able to park in the lower section of the High Street car park and use the pedestrian exit onto West End.
