Issue 464 – England flag stolen from town centre

TOWN councillors have expressed their fury after a large England flag was stolen from the town centre.

The town council had raised a Union Jack and the flag of St George in the High Street, to celebrated the Queen’s official birthday and to support England in the World Cup.
The England flag was raised on Thursday 10th June, but by Saturday morning it had gone.
After cllr Cuthbert Murray issued an appeal, the flag was returned to the town council on the following Monday, however, it had been damaged.
Cllr Bill Braid said, “So many people were pleased that we’d done it, and then someone goes and does something like that. It’s beyond belief. Anyone who does something like that is just a mindless moron.”
The flag has been temporarily replaced with a smaller one, which was kindly donated by Dorothy House. Cllr Cuthbert Murray said,  “I have to say a big thank you to Dorothy House, who kindly donated the flag so we could get it up in time for the Queen’s official birthday.”
