Issue 463 – End of an era for Flair Hair

IT’S the end of an era for Flair Hair Studios and the neighbouring laundrette, as the current owners are retiring from business.

The two shops, which are located in Edward Street, have been serving the town for almost 40 years.
Derek and Kathleen Keemer set up the laundrette first, and followed their first venture by opening Flair Hair Studios, which celebrated its 35th anniversary last April.
Eight staff currently serve their loyal customers at the hairdressing studios. Acting manager Marilyn Maslin has been working at the studio ever since it opened. “This is the end of an era,” she said. “It’s been really good, it’s been a great place to work. We meet plenty of people, and as staff we all get on.
“We’ve got a lot of long standing customers who will miss us. We’ve had such a wonderful clientele, that’s what really counts. All the staff would like to thank the customers for all their loyal support over the years. We’re very friendly and we have a very friendly atmosphere which goes a long way.”
The laundrette has already shut, serving its last customers on Saturday 5th June. Flair Hair Studios will shut on Saturday 19th June.
