Issue 455 – Town Council grants boost town projects

WESTBURY Town Council has presented almost £12,000 to good causes in and around the town.

At a presentation ceremony on Wednesday 10th February representatives of the charities and groups that had successfully applied for charitable grants received their cheques. Every year the town council sets aside a figure from its budget to make the donations, which range from £100 to £500. This year there was £12,000 set aside for good causes.
Of this sum £11,500 has now been distributed across 54 grants, for a large variety of purposes, including money for the Army Cadets to purchase equipment to simulate realistic battle casualties, to hydrotherapy for special needs children at Stepping Stones and speech therapy equipment at Westbury Infants School.
Other beneficiaries included Bratton Silver Band, Westbury Youth FC and 1st Westbury Scouts.
Westbury Mayor cllr Sue Ezra said, “I find it a very pleasurable event because it’s something that the council can do to help lots of local causes with what they’ve asked for. Money is short at the moment so this is something that the people of the town can benefit from.”
