Local woman will shave her head to raise money for charity

A Westbury woman will brave the chop after deciding to shave off all her hair to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Michelle Bateman, who is registered blind and is wheelchair bound, is asking people to donate to her JustGiving page in the hopes to raise over £1,000 to donate to charity when she cuts off her hair at the Cutting Bar in Frome on May 31st.

Michelle said, “My hair is shoulder length at the moment and I’m going to get it all shaved off; I’m going to look like an egg!

“I decided to raise money in this way because both of my parents suffered and died as a result of cancer; my father died at quite an early age. I wanted to do something that would honour them, but I also wanted to raise some money for Cancer Research UK in the hopes that someone else doesn’t have to suffer.

“I’m hoping to raise over £1,000 and I’ve had a fair few donations fly in already! My family live in Wales so they won’t be able to attend, but I’ll have friends there giving me some encouragement on the day.

“I’ve been fundraising most of my life and nothing will set me back, I plan to go on until I’m no longer breathing. 100% of the funds raised from the event will go directly to Cancer Research UK.”

Michelle says she will confirm a time for the chop closer to the date. Michelle is accepting donations via JustGiving and you can donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/fundraising/michelle-bateman4
