All systems go for Community Project

A COMMUNITY project in Westbury, which has been created in the town’s former youth centre building and will provide groups and activities for all ages, is beginning to be opened up.

Whilst the country was in lockdown due to the pandemic, revitalisation of the   community centre on Eden Vale Road continued, ready to bring the new facility to the town.

Chair of the trustees, Richard Hatt, couldn’t contain his excitement when he commented to White Horse News, “I have worked in Westbury for 18 years and I cannot remember a time when the community had such an investment for the people.

“It has been truly humbling to see local tradespeople and volunteers come in from a variety of sources to create this very special place, Westbury Community Project. The way the local people have come together has been remarkable.”

Charitable grants have also played an important part in the project including a £52,000 funding boost made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) which is administered for The Hills Group by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

As yet, Westbury Community Project say they have not mounted an advertising campaign, but newly-appointed manager, Kevin Down said, “Word of mouth has passed on the news that we are beginning to open our doors and we are so pleased to welcome a range of groups who are catering for literally 0 -99 year olds!

“Bookings are coming in thick and fast for our large hall, training rooms and office spaces. If there is any groups who are interested in a one-off, weekly or even a designated all-year space please get in touch at Kevin.Down@WCPwilts.org.uk

The next major development will be the opening of the internet café, run by Fairfield Farm College, which it is hoped will be fully operational for early September.

Once Westbury Community Project is fully refurbished, then there will be a grand opening where all will be invited!
