Murder mystery event to help fund ‘A Home for Kale’

Story posted on

A FUNDRAISING evening, ‘A Fright at the Oscars,’ will be held at the Laverton in Westbury on Saturday 14th March to raise money for local teenager Kale who is severely disabled.

The fundraising evening is a murder mystery event with a three-course meal and entertainment. Tickets are £27.50+ booking fee.

Kale became severely disabled with brain damage following the removal of a large tumour on his brain stem last September when he was just 14. He also suffered two devastating brain bleeds.

Since then, he has been at Bristol Children’s Hospital. The prognosis was that he would never be able to eat, talk or walk. He now has locked-in syndrome but is making slow progress, learning to communicate with his eyes.

His mother Jayne is looking forward to bringing him home so they can start rebuilding their lives, but according to the official assessment, their small terraced house cannot be adapted to accommodate his special needs.

A Home for Kale is a community organisation aiming to raise £150,000 for a bungalow in Trowbridge which can be adapted to give him some quality of life, where he can access the whole space and be near Jayne and Kale’s family and friends.

Organisers of the event say, “We are asking local companies if they would be willing to sponsor a table at the evening for £50, which will of course give publicity; as a thank you will be on the actual table, plus additional literature around the room.

“And/or we would be grateful for any additional donations/prizes that we can use to raise funds for this young gentleman.  The community has already raised £50k out of the £150k needed.”
