Volunteers needed at Crosspoint

Story posted on

Members of the public who may wish to give something back by volunteering for a successful local charity may be interested in an opportunity to volunteer at Crosspoint.

The organisation, based in the Market Place, currently offers counselling for adults and for young people. Counselling for couples is planned to start shortly.

Due to an increase in demand for counselling sessions, volunteer receptionists are urgently needed for Tuesday afternoons and evenings and Wednesday mornings. The role consists of providing a welcome for people arriving for a counselling appointment and being available should the counsellor or client need any assistance.

It will suit people who have a welcoming and friendly manner, some spare time and a wish to make a difference.

“We currently have a waiting list for counselling and have decided that we need to increase the number of sessions we provide,” said Jo Booth, head of Westbury Counselling Service. “We hope it will mean people don’t have to wait too long to see a counsellor. I am also really pleased that we are extending our service to be able to offer couples counselling as well.”

Those who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression or generally feel they will be helped by some counselling sessions can refer themselves to the service at Crosspoint Welcome Centre or ask for a referral form from the team at the White Horse Health Centre.
