Sensational bowling by Carroll stuns hosts

Sat. 10th August. WEPL Wilts Div. Devizes 39 – all out. Westbury 41 – 0

Westbury travelled to play Devizes hoping to win and help secure second place in the league.

Westbury made one change from last week’s away win at Purton, with James Haggaty coming in for the unavailable Arran Dickinson.

Westbury won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Devizes into bat.

Westbury made an unbelieveable start by taking seven wickets for 12, with Andy Carroll taking 6 wickets,  Richard Oakley taking one, and it was only due to a partnership of 23 between Ben McGowan and Sumith Surendran that enabled Devizes to reach  39 all out.  Andy Carroll had the sensational bowling figures of (8-19 off 6 overs) and both Richard Oakley and Graham Hudson took one wicket each.

When Westbury batted they had all the time in the world to take Westbury to a 10 wicket win, this match being all over by half past two. Richard Mills was unbeaten on 18 and Daniel Gill unbeaten on 13. Westbury gained the maximum 22 points.

Westbury host Hinton Charterhouse next week at home (17.8.19) starting at 12.30pm.

The following day, Westbury are having a charity day with Prostate Cancer UK and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance being the charities supported. This is also the day that the Westbury Ladies are playing their first ever match against Royal Wootton Bassett Ladies, starting at 10.00am. In the afternoon, the Westbury scorer Chris Lack has invited players to play in his team against Rockhampton starting, at 2pm.

We hope the townfolk of Westbury will support the club in the worthwhile charity effort 2019.  A barbecue, cakes and other goodies are on offer.
