Afternoon tea raises money for Victoria Gardens

Newly-elected Westbury mayor, cllr Mike Sutton, was just one of the many people who enjoyed sunshine, tea and cakes in Westbury’s historic Victoria Garden.

Sally Hendry of Friends of Victoria Garden said, “We laid on a slap up tea, complete with music, in the sunny surroundings of this sunken garden off All Saints Churchyard.

“The event proved a great success and raised more than £400, which will be used for a variety of additions to the garden including a rosemary and lavender border.

“Victoria Garden was once a millpond serving the nearby town mill, but was restored and presented to the town as a public garden to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

“The garden is maintained by volunteers but is open to the public every day, weather permitting.”
