Success all around for Westbury RFC

Story posted on

Westbury men’s 1st XV have continued their determined turn around running from Christmas 2017.

The club reports, “Since that crucial turning point the Westbury RFC 1st XV have only lost two league home games. This season started extremely well and the men’s side is currently third in the league, just four points behind their last league opponents Marlborough, who had only been beaten once this season.

“This game saw Westbury coming out on top 48-0 scoring eight tries in dreadful conditions at Westbury’s home ground, Knott field.

“This topped a tremendous year for both the men’s section and our ladies’ section who continue to go from strength to strength recruiting new players all the time.

“Not only are the ladies currently top of the league they also have not been beaten at home in a competitive game since March 2016. Our junior section continues to grow and have had some exciting half time games at Bath Rugby’s home ground The Rec. Plus all their local fixtures with other clubs.

“As a club we continue to support Westbury and the surrounding area by supporting local charities, regularly donating to Wiltshire Air Ambulance. We have just completed a food drive in which members of the club donated to a local food bank.

“Perhaps our biggest achievement this year was our members giving up their time to clean and restore the glorious Westbury White Horse. The club made up the majority of the volunteers and can look proudly upon the clean stallion whilst we train.

“Both the men’s section, ladies’ section and juniors’ are always looking for new players of all abilities. Training nights are ladies’ Wednesday 7pm; men’s Thursday 7pm; Juniors’ Sundays 10am, all at Knott Field, White Horse Country Park.

“Alternatively if you would like to volunteer or just support your local rugby club pop along and join in.”
