YMCA Bratton Pre-school invited families during the summer to enjoy a den-making session with huge success!

YMCA Bratton Pre-school joined the YMCA Bath group last January to extend the provision already offered in Westbury by YMCA Kingfisher Preschool, to the surrounding villages and towns.

YMCA Bratton Pre-school say, “We are situated within the heart of Bratton village and benefits from the use of St James’ Church Institute with its spacious hall and gardens.  It runs term-time only and can cater for up to 24 children per session aged between 2 and 5 years old. Full details can be found at www.ymcabathgroup.org.uk.

“Besides child care and education sessions, YMCA Bratton Preschool is committed to the whole family and recently held a ‘family den making’ activity. 16 families enjoyed a morning of den making with their children followed by a barbecue snack within the glorious garden.  Staff assembled an assortment of appropriate equipment and the fun began as the families eagerly scrambled for the resources they would need. Staff were on hand to help source additional equipment as the dens became ever more elaborate.”

Joint playleaders, Wendy Waller and Paulene Bryant said, “It was amazing to see how enthusiastically parents joined in with the challenge.  Children were not short of ideas or the ability to direct their families on construction methods either, with many choosing to personalise their dens with flags or name plates!

“Feedback from the families included “thanks for providing us with the opportunity to engage with messy den play that we would not do at home”.  The morning was considered a huge success and plans are already being made to repeat the event and perhaps extend it with a sing song.

“The new academic year is now under way and there are a few spaces still available.  Please telephone 01380 831273 to introduce your family and the team would be delighted to arrange for you to visit.”
