How can hypnotherapy help you?

CHURCHILL Hypnotherapy is run by Sandra Churchill HPD, DHP, SFBT (Sup), who is an experienced, accredited solution focused hypno- therapist/psychotherapist covering Melksham, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Frome and surrounding areas.

Sandra is also a solution focused supervisor and a former senior lecturer for Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a state of focused attention. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion. In a therapeutic setting, the suggestions are designed to be beneficial to help you change unhelpful thought patterns.

What does it feel like?

Actually, we all experience the hypnotic state in our everyday lives. Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or been engrossed in a book and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention, not unlike the feeling of being hypnotised.

During hypnosis you will be guided into a similar state so that beneficial suggestion can be directed towards your subconscious mind. Clients often comment about how “ordinary” hypnosis feels – it’s not unlike daydreaming – you can often hear everything that is being said whilst in a deeply relaxed state. In fact, you could think of it as guided daydreaming.

Why is it important?

Mental health is all too often in the news headlines these days and sadly the waiting lists for CBT intervention through the NHS are far too long for people suffering with issues who require support much sooner than the overstretched service can offer.

Sandra explains that hypnotherapy is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis.   The psychotherapy in itself is very beneficial and its effects are enhanced by the application of hypnosis, which enables the subconscious mind to make beneficial changes.

Solution focused hypnotherapy uses practical, modern and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives and looks at what the client wants to achieve, rather than focus on the problem(s) that prompted them to seek change.   The approach focuses on the present and the future and not on the past.

Stress/anxiety/depression affects almost everyone and Sandra uses solution focused questioning, relaxation, breathing exercises and mindfulness to help clients gain more intellectual control and manage the issues in their lives.

What to expect…

At your initial consultation Sandra will assess what you want to achieve, how hypnotherapy can help you and how many sessions you are likely to need with an explanation of “how the mind works”.  This, for some people, is enough to make an active change in their lifestyle and the first step on an amazing journey of recovery.   The scientific explanation of the brain is so powerful and clear and helps people understand why they are struggling and what can be done about it.

Subsequent hypnotherapy sessions involve much more than hypnosis. During the first part of each session there is talk about the progress made and encouragement to express yourself positively, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems.

What is psychotherapy?

There are many different kinds of psychotherapy, all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems. Psychotherapy involves talking together to help clients overcome their difficulties. Psychotherapy is often referred to as a ‘talking treatment’.

Can hypnotherapy help me?

Provided you are willing to make changes to the way you think, the therapy can be highly effective in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress. Focusing on solutions means we do not dwell on problems.   Instead it acknowledges where you currently are, identifies where you want to be and helps you to make the necessary changes.

Sandra works with anxiety, depression, insomnia, panic attacks, confidence, self esteem, stress, IBS, OCD, fears and phobias, anger, self hypnosis for childbirth & so much more.
