Westbury’s popular Music for the Mind group will be meeting at White Horse Country Park from September.
The weekly group for people living with dementia and a family carer has been based at Fullingbridge Farm since it started in 2011. It is one of 12 groups in Wiltshire run by Alzheimer’s Support.
Singing together in a supportive, friendly group is uplifting, enjoyable and hugely therapeutic for people living with dementia and carers alike.
Music for the Mind builds on the fact that music appears to ‘unlock’ parts of the brain and people often retain song words and melodies longer than other memories. The sessions are carefully structured to be both stimulating and fun. Although well-loved classics are part of the mix, the group sings rhymes and action songs that help physical co-ordination, and tackle harmonies, rounds and partner songs.
The group is very friendly and supportive, and holds Christmas and summer parties, as well as get-togethers in the holidays when the sessions are on hold.
The group has met at Fullingbridge Farm since it started in 2011. The group will meet at the same time – 10.30am to 12pm on Tuesdays.
