GET ready for the hottest celebration of the year with Westbury’s bi-annual street party that promises to be the biggest and best yet, as the town is transformed into a Caribbean island with the sound of samba and the taste of Jamaica.

The event, run by Westbury Town Council on Saturday 7th July, will stage a fun day out for all the family, opening at 11am. Throughout the day, there will be acts on the stage in the Market Place and walkabout entertainment through the streets. Watch out for a 20-foot long pirate ship sailing up Maristow Street with performing pirates on board, as well as Captain Beaky the talking parrot.

There will be an exotic samba band, Jamba De Samba, with performances throughout the day. There will also be a host of market stalls in Edward Street and Maristow Street,  including a variety of food stalls featuring something for everyone’s taste from Caribbean food to a hog roast to an ice cream van.

Following the afternoon entertainment, the evening concert will commence at 6pm, compèred by Jon Monie, and featuring a variety of acts including local favourites Cley Hill Stompers and headliners Definitely Mightbe – one of the UK’s top Oasis tribute acts. The evening will kick off with PSG Choir,  Cley Hill Stompers, the Will Blake Trio, local singer/songwriter Mollie Green and The LBJBs, before the headline act ‘Definitely Mightbe’ from 9.45pm.

There is plenty going on across the day from 11am until close at 11pm. The event is free to attend as well as free car parking in both the High Street and Warminster Road car parks.

Mayor of Westbury, cllr Ian Cunningham said, “We are really looking forward to our Caribbean Summer celebration this weekend; fingers crossed that we’ll have more of the fine weather. We’re expecting lots of Westbury residents to come out and enjoy a day in the sunshine and experience some great food, market stalls, music and entertainment.”
