The Men’s June Medal was won by the old stalwart Dave Gilbert(his fifth win) with a nett score of 69.

“Our first home friendly against Fosseway resulted in – wait for it – our first victory of the season by 4 games to 2!,” reports the club. “The winning pairs were Colin Booth/Barrie Jamieson John Boniface/Bob Rawlings Dave Gilbert/Steve Turner and Malcolm Stone/ Rodney Poolman. If we carry on in this vein it will cost the Captain many bottles of wine.

“On July 4th we are hosting a Seniors Open competition with prizes for nearest the pin and the longest drive.The entrance fee is £10 and you can send your entries to David Firth.

“The June Medal was won by Ryan Sims with a nett score of 65.

“Our latest Seniors Friendly against Wincanton Golf Club resulted in a 4 matches to 2 matches defeat. Our winning pairs were David Firth/Virgil Williams and Mike Frowde/Mike Daniels. Nobody has yet won 3 games in a row, to qualify for a bottle of wine which is saving the Seniors Captain money.

“We ran a 3 club fun competition which was enjoyed by all. The winner was Dave Gilber (again) with 38 stableford points, runner-up was Mike Darwin with the same score and the leading lady was Tina James.

Westbury Ladies Golf

IT has been a busy few weeks for the ladies’ section of the Westbury Golf Club.

Secretary, Fiona Belson reports, “Mid-week medal No.2 was won by Tina James and the runner-up was Mandy Wright.

“The past captain’s competition was won by Pauline Chisholm and the runner-up was Margaret Adams.

“The June round of the Celia Dowell Competition was won by Pat Bell and the runner-up was Wendy Darwin.

“Medal 3 was won by Tina James. The runner up was Pauline Jones on a countback from Gill Sawyer and Mandy Wright.

“Thursday was our Captain’s Day which was enjoyed by all.  The winner was Mandy Wright.  Pauline Jones was second and Maureen Heard was third.  Maureen also won nearest the pin and I was nearest the line.  The game was followed by lunch.  The members wish to thank Pat Bell for all the work she put in to make it a successful day.

“The Rosebowl Competition played on Saturday was won by Mandy Wright.  In 2nd place was Marilyn Bonniface and in 3rd place was me.”
