LOCAL MP, Andrew Murrison has written to the Secretary of State for Environment, MP Michael Gove, about the proposed gasification plant in Westbury.

The local MP for the area joined the campaign to fight the  proposed plans for a gasification plant and waste sorting station in Westbury last month.

He has already written to Wiltshire Council to oppose the planning application to construct the plant and has now taken the campaign to Westminster.

In his letter, MP Andrew Murrison urges MP Michael Gove to instruct the Environment Agency to fully consider the impact of ultra-fine particles that could be emitted by the plant on the health of the community.

He said, “I write concerning the propose gasification plant at Westbury in my constituency.  You will be more familiar with a similar plant at Rookery South in Bedfordshire. I am concerned that the Environment Agency  (EA) will not, or is not able to, properly consider PMI and ultrafine particles in its determinations.

“The science on these smallest of particles is evolving fast and it makes no sense to permit processes that may tomorrow be shown to have substantial health consequences, particularly cardio and cerebro vascular disease.

“I urge you to instruct the EA to take a precautionary stance.”
