WESTBURY & District Choral Society are in their final stage of rehearsals for its spring concert on Saturday 21st April where it will showcase works from Bach to Bernstein.

Under conductor, Luke Pickett alongside Rob Danter as accompanist, the main work will be Schubert’s Mass in G, when the choir will be joined by a guest string quartet and  soloists Mary Pope, Mark Hounsell and Graham Dalby.

Other works include a series of Bach choruses, ‘How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place’ from Brahms’s German Requiem and a selection from ‘West Side Story’ marking  Leonard Bernstein’s centenary year.

A choir member said “We certainly have a varied programme this year which has presented several challenges, not least singing two of the pieces in German.

“The Schubert was new to many members and is a fairly short but lovely work, as of course is the Brahms, while the excerpt from Howard Goodall’s ‘Eternal Light’ will show that there is more to this composer than ‘The Vicar of Dibley.’

“It is also good to have several lighter items including the ‘West Side Story’ selection which is fun to sing, but by no means easy. Altogether, members are  looking forward to what they believe will be an especially good concert.

“The choir has gained a growing reputation in recent years and we look forward to welcoming a good audience, which would be a great encouragement.”

The concert will be held in All Saints Parish Church on Saturday April 21st. starting at 7.30pm. Tickets £9 (accompanied children free) are now on sale  from Westbury Visitors Centre, members or on the door.
