Westbury Under 7s and Under 8s played TAG Rugby in front of crowds of 14,500 people during halftime periods of the Bath premiership matches against Newcastle and Worcester, thanks to the Bath Rugby community team.

Westbury U7s played against the Bath U7s and Westbury U8s played against the Melksham U8s. “Great teamwork, enjoyment and sportsmanship were shown by all teams. After the game involving Westbury U7s, the team was asked if it was fun to play on The Rec in front of such a large crowd. One player replied “No – it was flippin awesome!”

Westbury RFC Juniors have just started the Westbury Wolves where players aged 4 – 6 years can come on a Sunday and play rugby-orientated fun games. It is free to take part and starts at 10am.

Julian Phelps, youth chairman, said numbers are currently growing in most ages, but a couple of age groups still need more players in Westbury and other local rugby clubs. He said, “We need more players for our Under 9 (school year 4) and Under 10 (school year 5) age group to grow the squads for future years. We have great facilities and coaches who train with an inclusive player-centred approach – they just need more players! If you or you know someone (school year Reception to Year 8) who may be interested in trying out rugby, just turn up on a Sunday morning 10am at the rugby club at White Horse Country Park and give it a go.”
