MONTHS of training have paid off for local woman, Diane Hier, as she scored a PB in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.

The Ironman World Championships is an endurance race with a 2.4 mile swim, then a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full marathon.

Diane Hier said, “The Ironman World Championships, here in beautiful Kailua-Kona, has been a memorable experience and i feel privileged to have raced here.

“It was a tough event, made harder because of the scorching heat and the brutal winds on the bike course. I am proud to say i finished in a personal best (PB) of 12 hours 05 minutes 11 seconds and came 11th in my age category and the first GB 55/59 female.

“I can’t thank my family and friends enough for all the love and support they have given me, it’s been overwhelming!

“After a few weeks of over indulgence and relaxing I will be back training for my clubs, Avon Valley Runners, Avon Valley Triathletes, Westbury Wheelers, DBMax Swim club and Warminster Masters swim club.

“I have entered the Bath Half Marathon 2018 and I look forward to training and racing the next London Marathon after missing it this year.

“A special mention to Ian and my coach Paul Ryman. Thank you!”
