WESTBURY Youth Club has officially reopened its doors to the young people in the community.

The club at Leigh Park Community Centre, that was forced to close in early June due to a volunteer shortage, reopened on Wednesday 13th September. Welcoming them to the club were 10 new volunteers who had  stepped forward to help reopen the club following a recruitment drive over the summer.

During the summer, the volunteers underwent safeguarding and first aid training and made plans to make the youth club sessions interesting and fun for all that attend.

Sarah Hiscox, youth leader  said, “It’s going really well. We had about 16 young people come along to the first evening on the 13th September and then the following week the number shot up to 30 young people. So we’re really pleased with how it is going, it’s going really well.

“We organised a quiz for one of the sessions to help the children get to know each other, that involved sharing interesting facts about their lives.

“Coming up, we have more exciting activities planned with things like a table sports session and a special Halloween evening on Wednesday 18th October. On the night there will be face-painting and we’ll be encouraging the young people to dress up if they want to. Myself and the volunteers will be in fancy-dress!”

The club is open every Wednesday during term-time from  6 – 8pm. Anyone from 11 – 18 is welcome to come along. Entry costs £1 per week. For more information about the club email leighparkcommunitycentre@hotmail.co.uk.
