UNITED made the short trip over to Devizes for a local derby which has served up some fierce battles in recent seasons, but this game wasn’t played in that vein.

Both teams looked to get the ball down and play, Leon Greenland was excellent again at left back, his foward runs were a constant menace to the opposition and provided Westbury with some real thrust, in the first half both centre backs had chances which the keeper was equal to.

The best chance of the first half was from a short Josh Ferguson free kick to Greenland. Greenland passed forward to Steve Hulbert, Steve set the ball back to Ferguson who fizzed a pinger into the box, Ricky Hulbert was there to meet the ball with a glancing header which the keeper tipped onto the bar.

The second half was full of hard work by Ricky Hulbert and Mark Robinson who could not work a clear cut chance. Jamie Jordan managed a low volley that was saved and Martin Johnson came on as a sub and instantly nearly got a goal.

Westbury started to run out of steam, the hectic early scheduling finally catching up with them and Devizes managed to carve out a few opportunities, Adam Sheppard for his first appearance of the season between the sticks was sharp and equal to anything that Devizes could throw at him.

The final score of 0-0 was probably a fair result, but both teams had their chance and could’ve taken three points. Star Man: Adam Sheppard

• After a bizarre ending to the match against Chard, United now await the league’s decision to see if we will have to play a replay; the referee brought the game to an end with at least 6 minutes of the match left to play.

“We’re hoping that the league will grant us the chance to compete for the full 90 minutes,” said the club. “We believe it’s our sporting right to get this chance, as there is history of games being replayed when abandoned due to weather, so we feel we’re in with a good chance.”
