WESTBURY Wheelers are hosting a cycling open day for adults and children (aged 11 and over) of all abilities on Sunday 24th September.

Sean Price, chairman of Westbury Wheelers says, “Starting at 9am from Westbury Market Place (please arrive by 8.50am to ensure a prompt start) we have 5 options: –

“Bikeability Level 3 in partnership with Wiltshire Council. There are limited places on a first-come, first-served basis, and you will need to book in (for ages 11-15).  To start Bikeability level 3 you must have completed levels 1 and 2.  If your child has not completed levels 1 and 2 then please enquire and we may be able to help.  Deadline is 10th September to book.  We still have limited availability for 9am and 1pm (course duration 3 hours).

“Green Ride – distance of approx. 15-20 miles on a flattish route with introduction to group riding and communication within a group (est. speed 11-12 mph). Yellow ride – distance of 35 -40 miles (est. speed 12-13 mph). Blue ride – Distance of 45-50 miles (est. speed 14-15 mph). Purple ride – Distance of 55-60 miles (est. speed 15-16 mph).

“The yellow, blue and purple rides include a stop at a very pleasant café with about 16 miles left to ride.  The green ride will have breaks en route and a stop at the end for a de-brief.  All groups ride at the pace of the slowest rider. You will need to bring the following; a roadworthy bike, helmet, spare inner tube, pump and some money for the café stop.  If you do not provide a roadworthy bike and a helmet, you will not be permitted to take part. If you need advice please ask.

“The open day taster rides (options 2-5) are free to all.  Bikeability level 3 costs £1.01 per child.  We are bringing in trained instructors so we would like participants to sign up for junior membership, cost £1.01 when you book a Level 3 bikeability course with us. Go to www.britishcycling.org.uk/ club/profile/ 125/westbury-wheelers and click Junior membership.  This includes membership of Westbury Wheelers until 31/10/2018.

“Bikeability is a national scheme delivered locally by Wiltshire Council and level 3 provides your child with skills and understanding to ride on busy roads. It is excellent preparation for them joining a local cycle club with the ambition of cycling as a sport or leisure activity.  In your local cycle club, you will learn group riding skills and communication skills essential for safe riding.

“Westbury Wheelers is a mainly a road bike club but this open day is for road bikes, hybrids and MTBs, (sorry not BMX bikes).  Lycra is not mandatory.
