Westbury travelled to play Rockhampton in a league game for the first time in four years, hoping to build on last weeks convincing home win against Thornbury.

Westbury made one change from last weeks game with Dan Gill coming in for the unavailable Tom Lucas.

Rockhampton won the toss and immediately decided to bat first on a green looking wicket.  They opened with their regular pair, Matt Tyler and De Beer and took their time against the Westbury opening bowlers, Senneck and Oakley.  With the total on 52, in the 14th over, Westbury struck by having De Beer caught by Oakley off the bowling of Senneck for 30.

Tyler was then joined by Brothwood and they took the total to 76 when Rockhampton lost their second wicket when Brothwood was caught at slip for 13 off of the bowling of Senneck.

Shortly afterwards with the total at 86 Wakefield was out, caught behind for 3 from the bowling of Andy Carroll who bowled with genuine pace and intent.

Tyler was then joined by his brother Will and they took the total to 101 when Will Tyler was out for 3 leg before off the bowling of the Westbury spinner Hudson.  It was at this time that opener Matt Tyler started to play his shots and when the total reached 202 he completed his second league 100 off 148 balls in 170 minutes.  He, with the help of the lower order, took the Rockhampton score to 221 for the loss of 8 wickets. Senneck (2-29 off 10 overs) had the best figures and at the end of the innings Tyler was unbeaten on 112.

When Westbury batted they made a bad start with the loss of Whiting (9). Coles (8) and Scott (0) before reaching 36.  Mills then joined Varley and they took the total to 106 when Varley was caught on the boundary edge for 52 off 49 balls in 71 minutes.

Mills was then joined by Hudson and they took their time against some dogged bowling from Rockhampton. When the total reached 146 Mills completed his first league 50 this season, made in 89 minutes off 92 balls. When the total reached 204 and the game nearly won, Mills was out caught by Tyler off the bowling of Brothwood for an exceptional 77, shortly afterwards Hudson was also out caught for 54. It was then left to Senneck with the help of Gill to take Westbury to a 4 wicket win against a side that had recently reached the last 8 stage of the National Village Competition.

This week’s Man of  the Match, sponsored by Eastern Paradise was Richard Mills.

At the half way mark of the season, Westbury sit in a comfortable third position having been newly promoted this season. It is all to play for over the coming nine weekends as Westbury push for promotion into the Premier Division.
